Over the past few weeks, we have had the displeasure of watching as politicians, “journalists,” and corporations have taken the opportunity to show how woke they are by condemning Georgia’s new voting requirements. Of course, the expected names are on the list, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, and Don Lemon, shedding their crocodile tears over the topic. They were joined by Georgia-based companies like Delta and Coca-Cola, who also bemoaned the racism of it all. Sports leagues and movie studios moved their upcoming events from the state.
What is it that is so unbelievably racist about these new requirements? That, in order to vote, you have to prove that you are eligible. If you have read that and are surprised by the idea that you can vote without verifying that you are eligible, you are in the majority. In fact, nearly three-quarters of the country believes that everyone should be required to show a valid government ID in order to vote [Rasmussen]. This includes the majority of black and Hispanic citizens.
The common argument against voter ID requirements has been that they will alienate minorities, especially black Americans. The only way to arrive at this conclusion is to believe that black people are somehow less than a full person. A fully capable person has the ability to go to the DMV or Tax Collector (depending on where you are in the country) and get an ID. In many states, a non-driving ID is incredibly inexpensive and easy to acquire.
So, what part of this alienates black people in particular? Absolutely nothing. Recent statistics show that all demographics have ID fairly equally, with the black population being slightly lower [ProjectVote], but not in any significant percentage (87% versus 90% for Latin Americans). In the state of Georgia, where the issue is making the biggest splash, 97% of all registered voters have a valid ID [AJC]. That means that, on top of the unbelievably low belief in the abilities of black Americans, it is also literally a non-issue.
Why in the world are the leftists making such a big deal about this that they are threatening a boycott against Home Depot for not coming out in favor or against the law? Because division is good for business. A divided people are easier to control, and one that relies on its government, and the lies of that government, are the easiest to control. It’s a process of conquering the country from the inside.
But, the important takeaway here is that black Americans, particularly those in Georgia, seem perfectly capable of getting and keeping a valid ID, and do not need or want Leftist pity and bigotry thrust upon them. The racial hang-ups are a Leftist problem, not theirs, and should be left as such. If we would all speak for ourselves instead of trying to virtue signal to our friends about how woke we are, the racial divide would close and we could eliminate this woke nonsense from our society.
